VISIT OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF COLORADO SPRINGS

 

   Last 6th December, Wallace Don, representing the Presbyterian church of Colorado Springs, visited us; He has been working for eight years, as a collaborative missionary in the USA-Cuba medical exchange, through Resource Exchange Int., an interdenominational group of voluntary doctors working in Vietnam and Cuba.

 

   The visitor was welcomed by Vice-director Pablo Oden Marichal who talked about the history and the development of the work of the SET.

VISIT OF PROFESSORS AND STUDENTS OF LASP

 

   On Friday, December 7th, some professors and students from different Christian universities, gathered together in the Latinamerican Service Program (LASP) of Costa Rica, visited again the SET. During the staying, they interchanged with professors and students of the campus. In the evening, they enjoyed a performance of the Chamber Choir of Matanzas.

SHARING DREAMS

   Rosa Bahamonde, our librarian, summoned the community of the SET, to participate in an exhibition in order to show different art manifestations. On Tuesday evening, December 11th, the library opened its doors full of flowers, paintings, photos, candles, poetry, music, dance, short stories and songs, This event was a space for a meeting where heterogeneous manifestations of art, full of the magic of the creative impulse gave to the students, professors, workers and members of the community the chance to share their dreams.

A VISIT FROM THE SWEDISH CHURCH

 

   On December 12th, Mrs. Adriana Gastellú Camp, responsible of the International Department for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Swedish church and her colleague Mr. Andrés Lindow, visited us. The purpose of their visit was to know the work carried out by our seminary and to establish fraternal relations between both institutions. They were welcomed by Dr. Reinerio Arce Valentín with whom they held brotherly talks.

4th MEETING OF THE BACHELOR OF THEOLOGY COURSE

 

   >From the 10th to the 14th of December took place the 4th meeting of the non-resident course of Bachelor of Theology. This program keeps an enrolment of 26 students (11 men, and 15 women), members of the Reformed-Presbyterian church, Episcopalian church, Fraternity of Baptist churches, Church of God, Salvation Army, and the Christian Agrarian Brotherhood.

PRESENTATIONS OF THESIS AND DIPLOMA PAPERS AT SET

 

   On December 17th and 18th took place the presentations of Diploma papers and Mastery thesis in order that the students ended with their studies and fulfilled the requirement to get the corresponding degree. They were Wanda Hernández Murga (Fraternity of Baptist Churches) from the program of Bachelor of Theology presented the Diploma paper Pintando la Fe. El uso de las artes plásticas en la expresión creativa de las comunidades cristianas.” (Getting painted the faith. Making use of the arts in the creative expression of the Christian communities.”)

 

   From the program of Mastery of Theology were presented and passed the thesis of the students: Orestes Roca Santana (Fraternity of Baptist Churches) “Una primavera para la iglesia. La experiencia monástica y eclesiástica de la comunidad Taizé y sus desafíos para la iglesia de hoy.” (A spring for the church. The monastic and ecclesiastic experience of Taize community and its challenge to the present church.)Lis Margarita Hernández Martínez (Episcopalian church) “El Episcopalismo en Cuba 1868-1901.” (The Episcopalism in Cuba 1868-1901); And Edgardo Cedeño Díaz (Episcopalian Church), “Bautismo, Confirmación y Eucaristía. Una visión articulada del proceso de iniciación cristiana.” (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. An articulated vision of the Christian initiation process.)

 

   Congratulations to the students for getting the degree. The graduation ceremony will happen in June ’08.

CHRISTMAS 2007

 

   Christmas Banquet

 

   This year, on December 18th, listening to Christmas carols, took place the traditional Christmas banquet. Students, professors, families, and workers as a big family remembered the borning of the God Child.

 

   Christmas Program

 

  

The 2007’s Christmas program taking place December 20th at SET was a chance to ecumenically celebrate the borning of our Lord Jesus Christ. This year, we counted on the participation of a String Quartet, conducted by Gerardo Hernández; Rainbow Choir, a children project of the SET; the Ecumenical Choir of Matanzas, conducted by José A. Méndez; el ecumenical group Agua Viva, conducted by Harry Castillo and Choir of the third age of the First Baptist Church of Matanzas, conducted by Olga Blanco.

 

   With an audience composed by members of the community and representatives from the churches of the town who went beyond the limits of our Chapel Resurrection, enjoyed an evening where the love and the joy for the coming to the world of the Baby Jesus. So the messages of hope and peace came true among us.
