PROGRAM FOR THE COURSE OF BACHELOR FOR NON-RESIDENT STUDENTS

The third meeting for the Program of Bachelor of Theology for Non-Resident Students took place from the 15th to the 20th of October. The program was shaped in a modular programming and it is  intended fundamentally to male and female pastors who want to reach knowledge and to get a recognized degree of theological education  and to churches and people who are interested in this program and do not have the chance to participate of the modality of permanent residency.

   >From the ecumenical point of view, the students think that the experience has also been important; since most of them have had the opportunity to share with brothers from other denominations, the level of acceptance have been a priority, so the cohesion of the group has been possible

CHAIR FAITH AND SOCIETY “MAURICIO LOPEZ”

On the evening, September the 7th, Doctor John H. Sinclair presented the subject “Los desafíos del siglo XXI para una iglesia misionera” (The challenges of the 21st century for a missionary church) in the framework of the chair Faith and Society “Mauricio Lopez.” The specific subjects were related to the shifting of Islam toward the West and the increasing influence of the Christianism toward the South. Concerning to that the professor said: “It is said today that proportionally Christians in the world are less than in the 2nd Christian century. Nowadays the increasing of the Christianism is in the South. The change of the demography in Europe challenges for opening a deep dialogue with the new Islamic and African communities living in the West.”

One of the other intentions of his visit was to present to the SET a complete collection of books (11 volumes) and articles and letters (13 volumes) by the mystic John Mackay. Professor Sinclair, who was MacKay’s personal friend said: “I have devoted five years to this project because Mackay was a very prolific writer. With these books, the library of the SET would have the most complete MacKay’s collection of in the world.”

INTERVIEW TO THE VISITING PROFESSORS OF THE MASTERY PROGRAM

The Chilean Professor Pedro Carrasco visits the SET for the fourth time to take part in the Mastery Programme. In this occasion he taught the course  Sociología del Tiempo y del Progreso (Sociology of the Time and the Progress).

Regarding the content of the course, the professor said: “This is a course about the modernity and the post-modernity. I try to understand together with the students the exhaustation of the idea of ‘world progress’. It is thought that the progress destroys the world and that it is linked to the market, to the money, to the interest. Nowadays, people do not believe in the progress. They believe in ideas like meditation, oriental religions, own profits. The idea of progress is lost. The progress has been presented to us as the permanent and continuous optimization of the present conditions of the life for the future. It is thought that “some day” it would be find the remedy.

I wonder it is now when the problem must be solved. To become this place yours, to dwell in the place, do not expect what will come. Tomorrow postpones the life.

Relating to the course he taught in the Mastery Program “That of every day give it today...the Kingdom of God and the Roman Empire,” Professor Christopher Levan said: “the Empire of God was founded on the daily bread, on ‘this simple bread” and on this bread converge three miracles. Why the movement of the Kingdom of God happens and others do not? It is because of these three miracles:

Abundance: If each person comes with all his belonging, everyone

can have. It is as the manna in the desert.  We make bread every day

in  order to have abundance. I wish the students know how to make

bread. Everyone brings what they have and there is too much.

Sharing: This is the acceptance. To the meal of God everybody is

invited without either conditions or distinctions. Everyone takes a

   piece of the same bread.

Access: Today, for owning something, it is used a hierarchical system.

The power is used either ecomincally or spiritually. Jesus said that no

one is more important. Every time we share the braid together we

are all the same. It is a miracle in a society having levels.
