They were received by the eminent Dr.Delio Carreras, historian of the University who conquered the listeners with the richness of his knowledge. Dr.Carreras made a journey back to time: the past came to life and foster the wish to research more, allowing to the presents to climb the mountain of the knowledge

THE REGIONAL SECRETARY OF THE WORLD FEDERATION OF THE CHRISTIAN STUDENTS MOVEMENT FOR LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN VISITS THE SET

The Secretary of the World Federation of Christian Students (FUMEC), Dan Gonzalez Ortega who also is a theologian and a Presbyterian Mexican pastor, was among us on January 29th.

About the movement, Gonzalez said; “the work of FUMEC in this area of the world has to do with the formation of Cuban student cadres and the sharing in social organizations, in the Latin American integration. It is making a bet for the Latin American integration that is being proposed by the social movements existing in Cuba, Ecuador, Venezuela and other Latin American countries. It is trying to transmit its Christian witness from the service to the churches and to keep its engagement with them.

In relation to his staying at SET, he said: “My visit to Cuba is due to the support the Federation, in a regional level, wants to or should offer to MEC (Christian Students Movement) in Cuba. Other reason for this visit is to make ready the way for the Regional Assembly of FUMEC taking place, by means of God, 24th- 28th July, at SET and also to celebrate the Cuban Revolution. The 14 Latin American countries will participate, although other Latin American international agencies of cooperation North-South will be also convene.

INTERVIEW TO DR. JOUDREY FROM CANADA

Again, we are honoured by the presence of a friend of the seminary, Dr.Philip Joudrey from the United Church of Canada. He is the Director of Montreal School of Theology. He came with a group of students from the school. Talking to Joudrey, he said: “The students coming with me are passing their last year of the career. They are members of the United Church of Canada and the Anglican Church. Before, they have visited other countries as Nicaragua, Mexico and South Africa, however in the last years they have been concentrated in Cuba. We chose the SET, in order they could interchange with the students here and make wider their horizon and understand the Gospel beyond their contexts.

We are concerned to establish relationships with a church that have so much thought about its mission as Church and that have taken all this theological thought to the practice, since we think that the values of the social project are compatible with the teachings of the Gospel.

We have seen the Cuban experience from a rich society. We watch Cubans and they tell us how the church will be or could be, since the Cuban church have lived in the middle of economic difficulties.

Canada has a good economic situation, but it is not so with the churches. We are not institutionalized churches any more. I think, at present, there are more possibilities for the Church in Canada. What is happening there is an invitation for the Church would be the Church again”.
