Disabilities of the University of Havana, and the
Ministry

from December 3rd-4th. The participants represented both Cuban
governmental institutions and national NGOs associated with the care of people
with disabilities. The opening speech was made by SET rector, Dr. Reinerio Arce
Valentín, who emphasized the fact that hosting this event responds to the
interest of our Seminary of including the theme of disabilities in its
different programs of theological training.
Among the
main themes of the FND were: Theology and Disability, Educational Work with the
People with Disabilities, Physical Education and Participatory Sports in Cuban
Special Education, Women and Physical Disabilities, Program of Care to People
with Disability in Caritas, Evolution of the Concept of Disability, Culture and
Disability, Disability in the Family, the Care of Students with Disabilities,

Developmental Disability Resource Center in Calgary, Canada delivered a lecture
about Incremental and Alternative Communication. She also expressed her
interest in collaborating with our country in the implementation of that
technique on persons with cognitive and language disabilities.
The
participation of both the speakers and the audience showed the growing priority
of people with disabilities in the programs of the most diverse institutions,
such as the Council of Churches of Cuba, the University of Havana, and the
Chair of Studies on Disabilities, INDER (National Institute of Sports, Physical
Education and Recreation). The Ministry of Education, the National System of

VISIT

SET
CELEBRATES THE INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE STRUGGLE AGAINST HIV/AIDS
On
December 9th SET commemorated the International Day for the Struggle
of HIV/AIDS. This activity closed the commemorating Period for the struggle
against this disease, in Matanzas.
People
living with HIV/AIDS in the province of Matanzas participated together with SET
students, professors and workers. The program was organized and led by the
students and had the collaboration of the guests who, upon request, brought in
their hands a red piece of clothes. This was used at the end of the activity to
make a huge red bow. This gesture, full of emotion and sensitivity was an
expression of the awareness that all of us, as part of this problem, must make
common cause and remember those that are not present today but that came before
us in this endeavour.
This date
is commemorates at SET since 1996 and it is aimed at people living with
HIV/AIDS and it has had the collaboration of professionals of the AIDS program
and relatives and friends in general. Since that date we have accompanied, this
group of people especially and have collaborated with the sanatorium “Dr.
Ismael Triana Torres” of Matanzas.
